This is the schedule for Brooks Institute’s School of Visual Journalism Guest Speaker Series for July / August 2008. This series is an exciting line up including a variety of career paths.
If you are in the area and interested in attending, please stop by.
All events are free, open to the community, and held at Brooks Institute's Ventura Campus at 5301 N. Ventura Ave. Directions are included below.

Lorenzo Destefano
Producing Documentary Films
Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, Lorenzo DeStefano is producer/director. His titles include the upcoming feature documentary, From A Darkened Room – The Strange Life & Times of Arthur Crew Inman (http://www.darkenedroomfilm.com), about the eccentric Boston diarist. Other titles include his award-winning feature documentary, Los Zafiros / The Sapphires – Music From The Edge Of Time, about the Beatles of 1960s Cuba, was released in late 2007 on DVD by Vivendi Entertainment/Shout Factory. He is a Director member of the Directors Guild of America and an editor member of the Motion Picture Editors Guild.

Eric Thayer
The Freelancer’s Path: The trials and joys of a freelance photojournalist.
Eric Thayer is a New York-based photojournalist whose clients include Reuters, Getty and The New York Times. His work has appeared in Time Magazine, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Maxim, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and most major newspapers in the U.S. A graduate of the Brooks Institute of Photography, Eric moved to New York City in March 2006 where he worked at Contact Press Images, making the switch to full-time freelance shortly thereafter.
He has spent the past year covering the U.S. Presidential election, following the campaign trail through Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida, Ohio and California. He also covered the brush fires in California, the food crisis in Haiti, New York Fashion Week, Pope Benedict’s first visit to the U.S. and the floods in the Midwest.
All events are free, open to the community, and held at Brooks Institute’s Ventura Campus 5301 N. Ventura Ave.
Take highway 101 to Ventura, then highway 33 toward Ojai. Take the Canada Larga exit off highway 33. Turn left at the bottom of the offramp, then left at the second stop sign. Brooks Ventura campus is the large complex off to the right.
