Award-winning photographers Michael Goulding and David Honl have been added to the faculty of the upcoming Sports Shooter Academy Boot Camp, September 5 & 6, 2008 in Southern California.

Goulding is a staff photographer with the Orange County Register and Honl is a freelance photographer who recently relocated to Southern California.

"We are extremely fortunate to have Michael and David available to us for the Boot Camp," said Robert Hanashiro, Sports Shooter founder and director of the workshop, "The experience that they bring to this educational event is tremendous, it's beyond words."

Goulding has covered major sports events from the NBA Finals to the Super Bowl to the Olympic Games. Honl, known for his coverage of international news in locales like Iraq, Kazakhstan and Istanbul is also makes a line of lighting control gear for speedlites.

Also on the Boot Camp faculty are: Robert Beck, Sports Illustrated; Matt Brown, Southern California freelance photographer; Myung J. Chun, Los Angeles Times and Hanashiro. On the staff of the workshop are Crystal Chatham, Jordan Murph and Susanica Tam.

"We have a wonderfully diverse faculty and staff at these workshops. The different styles of shooting and each photographer's creativity really makes for a great learning experience," Hanashiro said, "But what really sets our workshops apart from the others out there is that I also want great teachers as well as great photographers on the faculty. We have that with this group...great teachers as well as great people."

The Boot Camp is a two-day hands-on, shooting education program with a different emphasis each day. Participants can register for single day or attend both days.

Day 1 on Friday, September 5 will be a football workshop with participants shooting both "American football" and futball (aka: soccer). Boot Campers will cover the opening day of a college soccer tournament at Cal State Fullerton in the afternoon and in the evening, for those that want to shoot some football, we will lead a group to the Santa Ana Bowl for the Santa Ana College vs. Cypress College game. Because we will be shooting soccer, we will have a remotes class at the stadium prior to the start of the first game. The evening will be one-on-one editing and critique sessions with the workshop faculty and the best work from each participant will be shown and awards given out for the top photographs.

Day 2 on Saturday, September 6 will be a daylong lighting workshop/shoot out. Participants will break in small groups of 6 - 8 and groups will rotate through different portrait scenarios. Athletes and models will be at different locations for the participants to pose and light under the guidance of the Boot Camp faculty. Lighting equipment from speedlites to studio strobes will be used to make portraits in the various set ups. The evening will be one-on-one editing and critiques with the workshop faculty and the best work from each participant will be shown and awards given out for the top photographs.

"This workshop is small, less intense than our 5-day Sports Shooter Academy," Hanashiro said, "However with this format of a specific topic each day the education, inspiration and photography should be top flight. But I think most of all this should be a really fun experience as well for both the students and working photographer."

The Sports Shooter Academy Boot Camp is sponsored by Nikon and the company will have its latest digital cameras, lenses, speedlites and other accessories available for participants to check out to use during the workshop. Nikon personnel will be on hand to help participants with the loaner gear and answer questions.

Dyna-Lite, Samy's Camera and Think Tank Photo are Boot Camp supporters. Dyna-Lite will be providing some of their lighting equipment for participants to use during Saturday's lighting workshop. Samy's Camera will be providing registered participants a discount on any rental equipment during the workshop.

Registration fees for the Sports Shooter Academy Boot Camp are $175 for a single day and $275 for both days. Full-time college students receive a 10% discount.
