| Image © The Gallup Independent || Surrounded by family, Martin Morales grieves with his mother, Zenieda, and son, Martin Jr., at their home in Gallup. Morales is need of a liver transplant and will soon die if his need is not met. The cost of the procedure is the biggest obstacle. |

Ahhh yes, life in the lovely southwest. While the pace of life here tends to be about two notches down from the rest of the world, we here have been staying pretty busy. Which is good, right? Well, sort of. Like many other newspapers out there, we've decided not to fill our third photographer's position, at least not until February of 2009. It's actually working out quite well, except we haven't quite hit our busy season yet. So in the meantime I'm using freelancers to cover the stuff we can't, and the two of us stay somewhat busy.
In other news, I've started a blog:

Admittedly, it's not much to look at, but it'll come along. This is an experiment of sorts for me, and I'm constantly working on improving these things, especially my website. So give me some feedback if you've got time. Thanks for looking!

I'm currently a photojournalist at the Gallup Independent in Gallup, New Mexico. I am available to shoot anywhere in New Mexico and the four corners region of the southwest, provided it does not interfere with my work schedule.
